If someone is in immediate danger

Get real-time, in-person help now. A website or AI system cannot contact emergency services, assess a scene, or keep someone safe.

What to tell the dispatcher

Give the location first, then describe what is happening in plain terms. Share whether anyone is injured, what immediate danger is present, and how responders can safely reach you. Answer questions as clearly as you can and follow the dispatcher’s instructions.

If you do not know an exact address, describe nearby landmarks or use the location details available on your device. If speaking could put you in danger, move to a safer place if possible and ask another person to contact help.

While help is on the way

  • Move to a safer place or closer to other people only if doing so does not increase danger.
  • Tell a trusted person nearby what is happening and ask them to stay with you or the person at risk, if it is safe.
  • Do not approach a dangerous person, weapon, fire, or other hazard. Keep a safe distance and wait for trained responders.
  • If someone is injured, follow the dispatcher’s instructions. Avoid moving them unless staying where they are creates an immediate danger.
  • Keep the phone available in case the dispatcher or responders need to reach you.

When the risk is serious but not immediate

Contact a qualified health professional, local crisis service, or trusted person who can help you plan what to do next. If the concern involves self-harm, our self-harm support guide includes crisis contacts for several countries. If the situation becomes immediate, use local emergency services.
